ABOUT SKYBORNE AUSTRALIAN SHEPHERDS

We are located in Northern Virginia, just outside Richmond. The dogs get to enjoy the hustle and bustle of our every day life as well as training and trialing for a variety of performance sports. Our dogs train and compete in a wide variety of sports such as Rally Obedience, Dock Diving, Agility and Conformation. We are active members of several dog clubs in the area and regularly train at these facilities. You will find us at trials located here in Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina and other surrounding states. We will occasionally travel outside these states, but try to stay close to home.

All of our dogs are registered with American Kennel Club (AKC) and the breed's private registry Australian Shepherd Club of America (ASCA). They are all health tested prior to breeding; these tests include Genetic Testing as well as certified with Orthopedic Foundation of Animals (OFA). You can see their test results under each of their profiles.

All of the dogs here at Skyborne are loved, cherished and are ultimately our companion and family members. We are a small hobby breeder that focuses on quality, not quantity. Each litter is methodically planned before any breeding will take place.  Each dog gets their own time and individual attention and will take turns running errands with us.

WHAT WE OFFER

TEMPERAMENT

The temperament and personality of a dog are just as important as health and the look of a dog. We produce dogs with phenomenal temperaments who excel as active competitors, make great companions and can also keep up with the hustle and bustle of your everyday life. Australian Shepherds are one of the most versatile dogs due to their ability to work in a wide variety of settings. They are known for their work as service dogs, therapy dogs, on the farm, search and rescue, agility, sports and make great companions. We give our puppies the best possible start in life by incorporating programs such as Avidog, Puppy Culture and ENS (Early Neurological Stimulation) from day one to produce confident, friendly dogs.

LONG, HAPPY LIVES

Health clearances and quality of life are vital for a long, happy life and to our breeding program. Our dogs are members of our family as indoor companions. All day access to our property gives them exercise and opportunities for exploring. Puppies are whelped and raised in our home to acclimate them to the hustle of a busy household and are very socialized to ensure the best start. Our dogs come to their new homes stable, socialized, and spoiled. We encourage all our buyers to compete in a sport in some way with their new puppy. This is fun for the dog and gives opportunities for bonding, training, trust, exercise, and mental stimulation.

TESTING

Extensive and thorough testing is done on parents and puppies to ensure the best possibility of a long, healthy life. Health clearances are a great start to bettering the breed. Ensuring only healthy adults are bred gives us the best possible chance at healthy puppies, which saves owners hundreds, if not thousands, on vet bills later in life.

SOUND MIND & BODY

We focus on only breeding dogs within the AKC/ASCA breed standard. We compete in a variety of venues to make sure our dogs are both mentally and physically capable of competitions and ensure they are preserving the breed standard. We research pedigrees extensively so that we ensure we are breeding only our best dogs to ensures healthy, beautiful puppies. A puppy from champion parents coupled with documented health clearances and a great temperament is priceless.

LIFETIME SUPPORT

When you take home your Skyborne puppy, you are not only taking home a healthy, happy puppy but you are also taking with you lifetime support. I will always be around to help you with questions and listen to your concerns. If you are having trouble with something, we will discuss it as a team to see if we can come up with a solution.

OUR PUPPIES

All of our puppies come from registered and health tested parents. By breeding quality Australian Shepherds, we can guarantee a sound mind and body in all of the puppies produced here.  We use Puppy Culture, Avidog and ENS protocols when it comes to raising our litters and each of our litters are raised in our home.   These programs give our puppies a great start towards being confident, highly-trainable, well-mannered members of your family.

All puppies will have tails docked, dewclaws removed, first vaccines, and wormed bi-weekly.  Each puppy comes with a registration application, microchip ID and AKC Reunite instructions, 30 day insurance application from AKC, a sample bag of food and a comfort toy or blanket to take home to help with the transition into their new home.

Our puppies are placed on AKC and/or ASCA Limited Registration (pet only) on a alteration agreement. Full registration rights are available to approved homes on a co-own only. We do have a contract in place to protect our puppies that we require all owners to sign prior to leaving with their puppy.

CHOOSING A PUPPY

We place puppies in homes to fit lifestyles, personalities, and temperaments. Aussies come in a range of colors and markings, and we will take into consideration color and gender requests, but it is more important that both dog and human have temperaments and lifestyles that are compatible. For example, we would not want to sell a high energy dog, who may need an experienced trainer, to someone who lives in a small apartment and has little time for training. Even if this dog had the most beautiful coloring and markings, it could strain the relationship between owner and dog if their lifestyles do not align. A better fit for this situation would be a low drive, easily trainable pup or adult dog, even if the dog wasn't the desired color. We reserve first pick of every litter and do a temperament assessments as they grow to get a better picture of the how trainable the dog will be and personality of the dog. We do everything we can to get you the puppy you want, and take into consideration the gender and coloring. We do not allow our families to pick their puppy until they are seven weeks or older in order to evaluate their personality and structure. After this evaluation, we are able to better assist you in choosing your perfect pup!

Using our Amazon Influencer page does not charge you additional fees. I wanted to put together a “One Stop Shop” for my families to make things easier for you as I know adding a new family member can be overwhelming.
